Equity & Fairness

Equity is the process of being fair to everyone. It recognises that the environment is not always even and implements strategies and measures to ensure everybody can fully participate in community life the way they want to.

Pursuing equity means aiming for the best possible standard of health and wellbeing for all people and giving special attention to the needs of those at greatest risk of poor health, based on social conditions. Action requires not only equitable access to healthcare but also means working outside the healthcare system to address broader social well-being and development, i.e. focusing on the social determinants of health.
